Nadja is a 1994 vampire movie starring Peter Fonda as Van Helsing.  So far, so good.  The film was written and directed by Michael Almereyda, but its $1M budget was financed entirely by David Lynch.  The whole thing is in black-and-white, but the "vampire-vision" point-of-view was obtained by using a literal Fisher-Price toy Pixelvision camera.  Here's my favorite quote sequence from the movie:

Nadja (holding Lucy's pet tarantula Bela):  "What does he eat?"

Lucy:  "Potatoes. Potato salad. Beer[?*]. I tried to teach him French but he wasn't interested."

Nadja:  "Maybe he has a learning disability."

[?*] That word is unclear.  Maybe it's actually "Deer"?  That makes even less sense, though.  Was this part actually scripted?  The actress playing Lucy is Galaxy Craze, and she reportedly said "I don't recommend people give their kids weird names."

MORE
We just saw an appallingly bad movie and I'm entertaining the possibility that you may have found a worse one. But it's unlikely.

Ferret the lawful left-handed female human knight ascended and reached #30 on the high score list at https://www.alt.org/nethack with only one near-fatal accident, fulfilling Tom's prediction that I would survive my first attempt at Nethack 5.0.0.

My friends, any time you are near water or lava or any other potentially-lethal terrain, make sure that you are not confused or stunned before you move!

I failed to heed this advice upon arriving in the Elemental Plane of Water, thus accidentally verifying the adage that "you can lead a ki-rin to water, and murder them by flying straight into it" because Nethack is cruel.  Luckily, I was rescued by an amulet of life saving because Nethack is also full of neat trinkets like that.

Poor Ki-Rin-Tin-Tin.  We had been through so much together.  Once he was turned to stone by a cockatrice!  After I avenged him by destroying that creature and its entire genus, I went and learned the "stone to flesh" spell so that I could revive him!  His memory lives on in the successor with whom I ascended, Ki-Rin-Tin-Tin-Too.

While jousting along in the Astral Plane, I learned that nominally-peaceful characters like the High Priest of Lugh are extraordinarily sensitive, and will try to smite you if you accidentally cause someone else to bump into them.  Chill out, dude, and accept this Amulet of Yendor as my apology.

One more piece of advice:  If you feel the need to leave your bag of valuable and essential trinkets on the ground somewhere, do not let it leave your sight!  It is entirely possible for that stuff to vanish from existence if you are not careful about it.

A very long ascension log from the game itself follows:

Congratulations! I would never have the patience for this today, but I did play all the way through the original X-Men arcade game today with a friend, with unlimited simulated quarters.
Any idea how _many_ simulated quarters?
Have you read Dungeon Crawler Carl? We got into it as a book club book. I immediately thought it was a very lazy take on nethack. But it becomes more than that. By the end of the first book I was sold. Will probably come back for more.
Huzzah! I have a wizardess in the Castle right now, with one wish left and about half of my typical ascension kit...first promising run on 5.0.0 but lots of game left.

Silly me, I thought waider came up with hply sjot all on his own way back in the day...
That’s probably the answer that I’m looking for :)
Harrison Ford? Tom Hanks?
Ford is correct, and the one that we got right. Hanks had no films in the 1970s.
Close! First film listed on Wikipedia was 1980!

We were doing fine until the last four questions, the first of which led to contentiousness and recriminations and eventual apologies.  If it wasn't phrased more craftily than below, there are two possible answers.  We missed all of these:

How many levels are in Maslow's hierarchy of needs ?

Who was the longest-serving U.S. Supreme Court justice ?

What English name, possibly deriving from the Hebrew for "to behold", was the first-or second-most popular female baby name in the United States from 1981 to 1998 ?

What U.S. president was featured on a $5000 bill ?

MORE
It's 5 in the hierarchy, right? Food & water, shelter & safety, coffee, chili cheese fries, and self-actualization?

If I don't know the answer for a U.S. Supreme Court justice, I'd guess Felix Frankfurter, but because it's an amusing name, not because I think it's the correct answer. Other good justice trivia: Taft was both a U.S. President and a U.S. Supreme Court justice (not at the same time, obvs). James Wilson was jailed for debts while a sitting U.S. Supreme Court justice.
I just read (part of) “The Lost Founder” about Wilson, and it’s a wild story. He fled to the southern states to avoid his creditors, but kept working as a judge along the way.

The Prado (one of my favorite art museums!), no idea, carbonite I assume, Peru Egypt Ireland dang that's familiar and no idea, Mozart (really weird opera, not that there are a lot of really normal operas)
That's about how I felt for the four-letter cities, but I actually pulled the correct answer for Cebu from the dim recesses of my brain. I think a lot of people guessed Japan for Kano because it matches their syllable pattern, but that's not it.
When I looked them up, it was, "oh right of course!" and "huh I did not know that." Always humbling to find out about a city of 4 million people you've never heard of.
2- Fargo?

3- allotrope
I never watched show #2, which features Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins, but somehow made the right guess, which helpfully "seemed right" because it has some letters in common with the singer's name.
ah, it's an excellent show (except season 5 which is merely okay)

I resisted trying Nethack 5.0 for a while, but there is some good news:

"You finish eating the xorn corpse.  You feel less concerned about becoming petrified."

There's also a tutorial mode which should help anyone who wants to start playing Nethack after 40+ years of development.

In the words of Beaker, “meepwy meepowawy”.
Oh cool. Hopefully I will get around to checking this out. With any luck they have improved the casually screwing around until you die on level 5 experience.
But not you. I'm sure you will survive.
I have been enjoying the hell out of the 1,000+ changes, but even having gotten some Fountain-Demon wishes, I haven't even seen the Castle level yet. Cleared Sokoban a few times, got to Mines' end a few times, got wiped out on the Big Room level a few times...it's nethack all right. I've never really recovered from the Elbereth nerf, if I'm honest.
...I was petrified!

(Sorry - couldn't be helped.)

Also, thanks for the reminder. I do wanna give it a go.
Currently reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, which seems to contain some pretty explicit references to Nethack already just a small part of the way in. (We picked it up as the shortest book that would get us into a book club meeting at the awesome local horror bookstore as soon as possible)
Yeah - DCC is also having a real moment right now. So much so that I've seen it advertised _in other ads_. That's some impressive marketing fu, if you ask me.
I'm only like 55 pages in but it seems to owe a large debt to Philip José Farmer as well.
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with his work. I can say that DCC is way over the top. A caricature of the genre, imo. That doesn't make it any less enjoyable - just have to know what you're in for.

Oh, right--Satchel Paige! Makes sense too, some pitchers seem to have remarkable longevity. Maybe I'm basing that solely on the long careers of the Niekro brothers, but I feel like there have been other pitchers with 20+ year careers.
One of them has the 1975 season listed as “Did not play - Eponymous Surgical Procedure”
Probably lacrosse. I’ve never met anyone who plays it and have never seen a match, but everyone knows it's official.
