Everything is much as before, modulo brightness out of the sky. These next two months are the brightest of the year and we're not spending much time outside still. But it's getting warmer, finally, it seems like the miserable rains and sudden polar vortexes are done.

I keep making art. I don't know how to not make art. It would be nice to sell some but that's even harder now. I post things regularly on my instagram PhotoPuck as well as on my purpose-made tumblr plotterprints.tumblr.com.

I hate Instagram with a fiery passion. As soon as they think you want to try to sell something on their platform you get shadowbanned from all but the most dedicated feed scrollers. Because they want you to convert to a commercial account and buy advertising. And I made the mistake of mentioning selling art a couple weeks ago so pretty much no one sees my shit anymore.

I cooked the other half of the whole beef round we bought a few weeks ago; it was in the freezer. Thawed it in the fridge overnight, sliced it 1cm thick across the grain, threw it in the IP, sprinkled Montreal steak seasoning on it and added a cup of water and pressure cooked it for 2.5 hours. Broke the meat up into chunks with tongs and stored them in the icebox, then turned the remaining liquid into beef and rice soup, which I am eating now.

Health is okay. Exercise continues lackadaisically. I probably wouldn't do shit if my Apple watch wasn't guilting me into doing 30 minutes a day. Buying it last September was clearly not a frivolity; it's keeping me much healthier. Recommended.

Mostly I use resistance straps on a three day legs, core, arms cycle. Sometimes I'll jog in place for 30 minutes instead or additionally, while watching nature documentaries on Netflix with the sound off.

I guess that's about it.

Following you on Insta now.
Can I buy your landscape "mistake"?
Just to let you know I got your order, thanks a bunch! I am an "Internationally collected artist."
I am an unabashed collector of my friends’ art. Most of the art in our home is by us or by people we know—or have met, even if only briefly.
I have created a storefront at plotterprints.square.site and I think the one you're asking about is on it. LMK if not.

We're continuing. Health maintains. Employment endures. We're managing the close quarters. Getting along well, being extra mindful of impacts we have on each other. The cats have adapted. There's a lot of things missing from life right now but we do recognize our good fortune and privilege to have the only things we're grumping about be the lack of a gym, in-person social encounters, and unfettered access to the amazing city that surrounds us.

We're shuffling along in a similar fashion.
Ganbatte!
That's a terrific word, and I'm going to use it. Thank you!
Much the same here, as well.
We can do it!

So far due to good luck and enormous privilege, we're healthy and working hard to remain so.

Mask up, friends, wash your hands, and stop touching your face.

Thank you for the update. I'm very, very happy to hear that. Are you and D and your fellow citizens under mandatory lockdown?

I have never been more grateful for, and uncomfortable about, my privilege. We have enough. We are OK. We are safe, and we are happy, and we are creative together. I recognize how rare this is, and my heart aches for people who are alone, sick, scared, experiencing homelessness, worried about bills, etc. I don't know how to help except help people in my neighborhood, and donate what I can... but it seems so puny.

Much love heading northward to you both.
Not yet. Yesterday the provincial premier announced $750 fines for refusing to provide accurate identification to police when accused/charged with public health violation -- including failing to maintain physical distance. The fridge is getting bare of fresh food and I think we both dread a grocery run (probably solo to conform with current advice) along with the queues and anxiety.

We used to like walking a lot. Now it's fraught, undesirable. Even the staircases and halls in our own building may contain impatient people with no evidence of protective measures. We are playing Schroedinger's infection status.

My mum continues to be confined to bed in Hamilton, week 3 or 4 I think, as the illness has been confirmed for several residents and staff on the floor of her nursing home.
Same here. Just listening to the clock tick.

Simple. Daffodil. March. laser cut craft foam. Cutting blue foam with a blue laser is a pain in the ass.

It's like 20C outside. I should go for a walk. Got errands to run anyway.

This is so purty and springy!

How did you get the little "scores" in the flower? Did you just tell the laser to cut half-as deep? Or is it cut all the way through the foam?

Seeing the first little green periscope of daffodil shoot in late February/early March is one of my favorite things in the entire world. It gives me hope that whatever depressing grey crap the winter has handed us, everything continues, the world is spinning, and there are wonderful, natural processes happening beyond my control and understanding, and sweeeeet jeeeeesus, we might really, actually, truly, be getting to the end of winter.
The scores are indeed lower power passes. Or faster passes. I forget, but... mostly Same thing. Joules per second per square meter. Physics!

I’m sitting on the balcony and it’s like 20C in Toronto and this is bullshit, May weather, but I love it. Gah.
"Cutting blue foam with a blue laser is a pain in the ass."

I know right? Why just the other day
Blue foam doesn’t absorb blue light, see... at least not much. White foam is pretty much impossible.
Beautiful work.
dank foo!

Revised my workout routine again, thought I'd share it.

Day 1 - Arm/core - 3x
Incline Crunch 13x, 1st oblique, 2nd double tap, 3rd asap
Triceps dip w/ hip extension 10x
Cable machine 10x l/r, 1st oblique @50, 2nd pulldown @50, 3rd one arm row @100
Advanced Bird dog 15x l/r
Lat pull down to fail @11
Pec machine to fail @47

Day 2 - elliptical 30min @ 12

Day 3 - Leg/core - 3x
Box jumps x15
Alternate Leg press 10x l/r @ 100 (90 degrees only)
One leg deadlifts 10x l/r @40
Farmer lift box step up 10x @ 50x2
Leg curl machine to fail 9
Dumbbell swing 10x @50 (we don't have kettlebells)

Day 4 - Treadmill walk/jog 30min @ lv 12/4.3mph+

Day 5 - Arm/leg - 3x
Leg extension machine 10x @10
Bent over row w/ dumbbell 10x l/r @60
Side plank leg lift 20x l/r
500m row max effort
Three point reverse fly 10x l/r @30
Push press dumbbell 10x @ 30x2

Day 6 - elliptical again

Then it repeats, alternating strength w elliptical/treadmill days. If you google any of the exercise names, you'll probably see how the're done, though some results are different because no one agrees on names apparently?

These are designed to take about 30 minutes. I revise this every couple weeks as exercises become passe or weights need to be bumped up, but I've been pretty careful to keep each day's exercises fairly focused and not overlapping with other exercises on that day, and to allow aerobic and lactic acid recovery as needed, and to give respite for healing from session to session.

Oh I should also count the walking down 9 flight of stairs and back up again to our flat as part of the workout, my watch certainly does.

What's an "advanced" bird dog?
basically a hands/toes plank and you lift L hand/ R foot off the ground and stretch them out and point your finger/toes for a couple seconds then put them back down and do the other R/L. so you're planked on one hand/foot for a few seconds back and forth.
Our gym has one kettlebell. It's 20 pounds, twice what I'm authorized to lift for the next 4 weeks.

My current workout routine is whatever I can convince Nike Training Club's Lean Fit Plan to feed me after lying to it that I have access to no gym equipment so I don't damage my post-surgery healing. Plus 30 minutes treadmill, currently at Level 9/4.1mph, on my days off that are built in to the plan once or twice a week.

It beats the yoga exercises I was doing for the first week.

These are all very small and mostly just process and materials tests.

Dig them all.
Is the second print your super-spiffy partner? I love the pose!

At a very quick first glance I thought the bottom one was a turtle.

When you say "very small," how small we talkin'? Because that's a good amount of detail you've got there. These are so cool!
Ha! I thought the teapot was a turtle at first, too!
That be me. I enjoy life modelling but it doesn't pay the mortgage.
2x4, 2x2 and 3x3 ish.
Holy moley! That is a lotttttta detail in such a small space. Wow wow wow!

Oh wow. I like the light spilling across the images as much as the art itself! Which is to say, a lot.
Same! This is really nice work Sean.
It feels so starry.
Oooo yes! Very Starman. Next thing you know, he'll be asking us to drive him to Arizona.
The only thing I remember about Starman is it stars Jeff Bridges (probably?) and there's a line about learning how to drive that goes something like "Red means stop, green means go, yellow means go very fast."

About 9x6.

Block prints are one of my favorite art forms because while they’re a flat print, they’re also of course sculptural. My flavor of neuro-diversity gives me actual physical feels when I see sculpture. I love flat/painted art, too, but it doesn’t have quite the same visceral impact. But block prints are somehow a bridge for me, a two-for-one. Thanks for posting your work! I enjoy it so much!!
I really appreciate this comment. I feel the same way about tangible prints, where you can see the medium on the paper, and each one's different. I've certainly done a lot of digital printing and they can look really good but there's always something dead about them and any other smooth rendition, that never really scratches that "real art" itch.

The new laundry machines installed yesterday. The cycle-finished chime is very German.

I love that little all-purpose laundry / pantry nook thingy! What a neat way to make use of a funkily-angled wall. Bonus points for kitteh!

What does a German chime sound like?

Matt (mah beau) had a brandy-new Zojirushi washing machine in his old apartment, and it would play a little song when the wash cycle finished. The first time we heard it, we were like, "Oh, this is kinda cute..." it had this hummable little sing-songy tune. And then we realized it had a B section and a bridge. That thing was *composed.* :)
I too was curious about the German chime, but now I'm ALSO curious about a composed "You're wash is done." tune.
The washer says "Beeeeee-BEEP" as in ACHTUNG! There's a button to turn it off if you don't need to know the cycle is done, though.

Our Zojirushi rice maker sings twinkle-twinkle!
Our Py-Py is also known as Py-Py, Cat Scientist. He seems like a space cadet, and then he'll spend 20 minutes working VERY HARD to science out the front door. We could smell the smoke coming out of his wittle ears. He knew the knob was important but never quite got it.
That bright light up top makes me think this is the mother ship and the cat explorer is reporting for duty.
